Virgin Mary of Kazan

Handmade Orthodox Icon Virgin Mary of Kazan with hand carved frame in natural rombolo pine wood. This icon was created on canvas and is made by a craftsman by hand according to the style, tradition and criteria of Byzantine art.

The Holy icon, which depicts the face of the Virgin Mary tenderly turning towards Her Son, who is standing and blessing. Also known as “Theotokos of Kazan”.

According to Sacred Tradition, it was discovered on July 8, 1579 in the city of Kazan, Russia. There are more than sixty copies of the Virgin Mary of Kazan, many of which are considered miraculous. In the Russian Monastery of Saint Panteleimon on Mount Athos, a copy of the Virgin Mary of Kazan is kept, of great artistic value.

In the Greek area, copies of the Virgin of Kazan can be found in the Catholic Church of the Holy Monastery of Panagia (Keratea), in the chapel of Osia Xeni of Rosida (Mandra Attica) and in the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin in Kallithea Attica. It is celebrated on July 8 and 4 November, the day Russia celebrates National Unity Day.
