Within the majestic Basilica of the Nativity in Bethlehem stands out the miraculous icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the so-called Bethlehemite. The holy icon of the Virgin of Bethlehem is the effigy icon of the Basilica of the Nativity of Christ in Bethlehem and is located in a prominent shrine, on the right side of the southern entrance of the holy Cave of the Nativity.

The infinite affection, which overflows from the eyes of the image of the Virgin Mary, and her peaceful gaze, sweeten and rejoice the hearts of the faithful. Accordingly, the clothing of the image of the Virgin, which is covered with luxurious fabrics and precious gems, makes a special impression.

Undoubtedly, Our Lady of Bethleemitissa holds a special place in the hearts of all Orthodox. The Mother of God, the lady of the Holy Land, is the loving mother, who obeyed God’s command and brought into the world our Savior and Redeemer, and at the same time she is the mother of us all and an ambassador to her Son in our every appeal. He is our guardian angel. In our difficult moments, we spontaneously turn to her face, image and grace, always invoking her as “our warm protector and helper”.
