Theotokos Triherousa
Handmade Orthodox Icon Theotokos Triherousa in natural rombolo pine wood. This icon was created on canvas and is made by a craftsman by hand according to the style, tradition and criteria of Byzantine art.
The miracle
The original icon belonged to the family of John of Damascus, who lived in the seventh century in Damascus (hence Damascene) in Syria. John was a Christian. At the same time he was an adviser to Caliph Walid of Syria on matters concerning the Christian population.
It is said that his positions against the iconoclasts provoked the reaction of the palace in Constantinople. It was because of this attitude that he was implicated and eventually arrested.
The Caliph, certain that John had betrayed him, ordered that his hand be cut off, as it was. In front of this icon of the Virgin Mary, John prayed constantly asking the Mother of God to heal him. Kneeling in front of the icon, he had the mutilated limb close to him and was praying with intensity.
The next morning when he woke up his arm was healed. Wanting to please the Virgin Mary, he made a silver copy of his severed hand and placed it on the icon.
From then on, the nickname “Tricheroussa” remained on the icon and, by extension, on Panagia
