Handmade Orthodox Icon Jesus Christ The Bridegroom Gold mirror effect made of Agioreite gilded canvas and natural pine wood. The outline of the image is carved.
Jesus begins by likening the Kingdom of Heaven to the ten virgins. “The Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were babies, foolish, and five wise.” According to the parable, one night ten virgins would welcome the Bridegroom holding a lamp. However, only the five had taken care to have oil with them, each saying: “It may be late, it may come in time. But I have to be ready.”
Finally, the groom was late in coming and they fell asleep. During the night, a voice was heard saying, “Behold the Bridegroom cometh in the midst of the night.” The virgins awoke and ran to meet the bridegroom. “Then all those virgins arose and prepared their lamps. The foolish said to the wise: “Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are about to go out.”
The wise ones answered: “Perhaps it will not be enough for us and for you. You had better go to the sellers and buy for yourselves.” The five foolish virgins left to buy oil, but in the meantime the bridegroom had come and the other virgins joined him in the wedding feast. When the foolish virgins returned, they knocked on the door. “Lord, Lord, open to us!” they said, and he answered: “I tell you the truth, I do not know you.”
The parable concludes with Jesus telling his disciples, “Therefore, be alert, because you do not know the day or the hour.” The bridegroom is Jesus, who through the parable wanted to tell his disciples that they should be alert and prepared for the Kingdom of Heaven.
