Virgin Mary Koursoun with metal

Handmade Orthodox Icon Virgin Mary Koursoun with hand carved frame in natural rombolo pine wood and metal halo. This icon was created on canvas and is made by a craftsman by hand according to the style, tradition and criteria of Byzantine art.

The monastery of Virgin Mary Koursoun, (kursun means lead in Turkish, i.e. lead roof), is located on Samson mountain, (Mykali), 12 km from Davoutlar beach, south of Kusadasi. It was built in the 11th century, hidden inside the mountain to protect it from enemies, heathens and iconoclasts.
